Andrew Marr Interview

Discussing This House on his eponymous show, Andrew Marr suggested similarities between Walter Harrison, the Labour whip who Philip plays in the current National Theatre production and Gene Hunt. “I’m playing a Yorkshire brute rather than a Lancashire brute. I must be the only southerner typecast as a northerner.”

Following the dramatic postponement  of press night last week due to a sudden bereavement, the cast are busy rehearsing with another actor who will cover for Phil Daniels in the short term. A new press night (or nights) will be announced shortly.

As expected, many MP’s with first-hand experience of Parliament in the 1970′s have come to see the show. Those ast the previews have included Neil Kinnock and David Owen.

  1. Thanks for that Gareth. So no rest for the cast ) ; Good thing they’ve got a week to rehearse with a new actor.

  2. Thanks for this. Interesting to hear how Philip got to have a look around the real House and talk to a few politicians, including the PM and one of the Whips, to help him with some background for his performance.

  3. Really enjoyed this interview, Phil looked really relaxed and in fine form! Sounds like he’s really enjoying it, I wonder if he will now do more theater?
